I am posting this diary as a form of therapy. It was either this or grab a spork and go on a familial rampage.
I am currently under siege as relatives have come to stay with me for this festive season. Older relatives. Older, retired, Faux News watching relatives. I thought it might have gotten a little bit better after they moved to the retirement community in Florida. All that warm weather, sunshine, lack of neighborhood kids with those thumping car stereos … what’s there to be angry about!
But no.
It seems that community is just an enclave for bitter, elderly white people who spend all day stirring each other into a frenzy. An indoctrination camp for radicalizing geriatrics. I’m telling you, THESE are the places Homeland Security needs to keep an eye on. It is only a mater of time before they have semi-automatic walking canes and car bombs strapped to their golf carts!
So I have turned to this diary. When it gets too much, I will pour another cup of good cheer and post some of their comments here. Hoping that by typing them here they will quit echoing in my head. Somehow, I sense I am not the only one in this predicament so feel free to post your own “tales from the front lines” in the comment section. Just try and keep it civil and remember NO NAMES! Some how Uncle Bob always finds out. ;)

So a Grandparent got a call from someone and they decided the best season greeting was to launch into RNC talking points. EXCEPT THAT THE GRANDPARENT ALWAYS HOLDS PHONE CONVERSATIONS IN ALL CAPS! So everyone in the house gets to hear the scree.
High Points —
- BLACK Woman CEO at Walmart refuses to hire any white men. 40 years ago men might have had privilege but now it is the complete opposite.
- A Muslim woman working in a Walmart can wear her head scarf but a service man can’t wear his service hat.
-You can’t pray at a HS football game but Buddhists can do their chant.
- Syrian refugees are coming to kill us. The only question they ask them on their application is “Are you affiliated with any terrorist groups?” but it says right there in the Koran that Muslims SHOULD lie to any infidels.
- Obama isn’t taking the terrorist seriously. He cares more about polar bears than terrorists.
-”THEY” wonder why Trump is so popular. It is because he says what everyone is thinking. He isn’t politically correct.
At this point I went and stood out in the pouring rain for a bit. There is just no point in trying to correct all of this hog wash. As I read in a recent post, people like this aren’t burdened with “the facts” and therefor you can’t “correct” what they don’t have.
I once tried to engage this relative with facts during the Bush years. The discussion was over why we even went into Iraq in the first place, how much it cost the US and how it was all just being “put on our tab” to be paid by “someone, sometime later”. In very short order I had them backed into a corner using their own logic and actual facts, the response? “Well, Clinton slept with an intern!”
Yeh. That.

Update —
I have just been informed by my dear relative, that while everyone gets bent out of shape about Donald Trump kicking out Muslims …“That’s what Jimmy Carter did! During the Iran Hostage crises, he banned Iranians from coming here and kicked some out.”
